AFS International seeks an individual with an educational and/or professional background in the Intercultural (Ic) Communications and Education field for a senior-level internship position: AFS Intercultural Learning Intern. Working from the AFS International office in NYC, the intern will support two key initiatives that are a part of the AFS Network's newly adopted "Ensuring our Expertise" ICL strategy: the Core ICL Competence Development (assessment and training) Program and the ICL Digital Library (knowledge management) Project. S/he will also support Intercultural Learning efforts in general for the AFS Network over the course of 2010-11.

For this internship candidates should:

- Have a degree (advanced preferred) in intercultural communication studies or a similar field and have strong familiarity with contemporary Ic theories, concepts, academicians, research, and practices, including Ic competence assessment methodologies and training programs;

- Have curriculum design and training/teaching (including informal) experience;

- Have excellent organizational skills;

- Have excellent spoken *and* written English skills (writing samples will be required, one or more other language fluency preferred);

- Have worked or lived in an international and/or multicultural setting;

- Be technology-savvy and able to work in various online environments;

- Be highly creative and solutions-oriented;

- Be able to work both independently and as a part of a collaborative team;

- Familiarity with AFS or intercultural exchange programs a plus, but not required.

This is a fulltime internship (~40/hours a week) requiring a 6 to 12 month commitment on location in NYC. A stipend of USD$1500/month will be provided. Additionally, airfare to/from NYC, visa sponsorship (if needed), and some NYC metro transit costs will be covered.
